How do I make my simfiles?Posted on: August 23, 2009, at 03:36:44am [ 0 comments] When I'm on FFR, I'm usually stepping songs to add to the database. If you've played some of them, you'll always notice some things common in my other simfiles. Anyway, here's how it breaks down:
1. I'll only step a song if I like it. If I find a song that is bad to my ears, then most likely I will ignore it.
2. Many of my songs are based off of O2JAM notecharts. That includes long holds (usually a measure's length), mass holds (quad holds), sudden time changes, and steps that loosely match the notechart's patterns (my steps are like O2JAM notes).
3. I always play reverse on Stepmania, so it looks like O2JAM. Also, when I make simfiles, I arrange steps according to their pitch. Low pitch steps are on the left, while high pitch steps are on the right.
4. It takes an average of 3 days for me to finish stepping a song, regardless of its length (I finished S-S-C-S Remix in 10 hours in one day). My stepping work is usually interrupted by real-life stuff, like parents...
5. I'm not a fan of using stops. Instead I prefer the instant time change that I see often when playing O2JAM (which I call the "bounce" effect). It's a simple "fast-to-slow" or "slow-to-fast" time change. My best simfile examples would be: "Explosive Part II - Viva", "Pulse in Opus", "Direction", and "Identity at First".
6. The majority of my songs have 4 difficulties. If a song proves too easy, 3 difficulties at most. Here is a breakdown of how I do each difficulty:
Easy: Foreground sounds and vocals. Mostly 4ths and few 8ths.
Medium: More 8ths included from easy, as well as some jumps. A couple of 16th bursts here and there.
Hard: Every possible sound that the song possesses. Limited to jumps.
Challenge: The hard difficulty, except that it includes, triples, quads, jacks, and mass holds.
Easy and Medium are usually paddable, while Hard and Challenge are for the keyboarders.
That's mostly what my simfiles are made of. I'll add more if I think I'm missing something. If you want, you can request a song to be stepped by me, that is if you like my style. I have a long queue of songs just waiting to be stepped though, so if you request me to step a song, it better be a good one. Later ^^. |
